with one smile

may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old

my my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it’s sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young

and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there’s never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile

Cheer up Jef. You’re a nice person and have a good head on your shoulders. Use it well to make this round ball of dirt better.

Funny, I find this poem to be rather uplifting and inspirational…

it’s just right for me, right now.

i also found it uplifting, and even went hunting for more e.e. cummings after reading it. have yet to find that perfect one, but he seems definitely worth many a read.

    (remember me?)

” That light we see is burning in my hall.
How far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a weary world.”
